Limitations

Due to the limitations involved in extracting handwritten text from a scanned document stored in an image format (TIFF format) – the Social Security Administration (SSA) is unable to provide, at this time, accessible versions of the documents contained on this CD for individuals who are disabled.

Alternatives
|
Until a technical solution exists for accurately copying the information into an accessible format, individuals with certain disabilities who are unable to read the forms on this CD with assistive technologies are encouraged to use one of the following alternatives:
- Magnify the image using your magnification software;
- Ask for assistance from a SSA employee, a reader, family member, or friend;
- Print the image (TIFF) file and use a document enlarger;
- Print the image (TIFF) and scan using your own scanning software; or
- Use Microsoft Office Document Imaging software to perform Optical Character Recognition (OCR) and convert to Word format (this will only work if text is contained in the document).

Section 508 Compliance
|
SSA’s goal of equal access and Section 508 compliance will be met through continued work with the technologies and developers involved in document imaging. As a result of ongoing efforts, SSA hopes to be able to accurately reproduce the text in these forms and provide them in an accessible format in the near future.
