1997 - Letters sent to the Rochester Regional Forensic Unit - Kevin Eric Saunders a-k-a bonze blayk

After my insanity plea was accepted on July 28, 1997 for the arson I committed on February 6, I was scheduled for an outpatient examination by the New York State Office of Mental Health.

Oddly, the first of the letters I sent to them to accompany my prior psychiatric records and other documents was placed in evidence - five years later - to support the argument that I was suffering from a Dangerous Mental Disorder and should be committed to a secure psychiatric facility… even though the psychiatric examiners back in 1998 with whom I shared the letter and documents had found that I was neither mentally ill nor dangerous, and did not require hospitalization?

I stand by the statements of fact I made in that letter - although it turns out that my speculations about the nature of my illness were mostly wrong.

The letter I sent just three days later was not similarly cited, which is "kind of interesting", especially because in that brief letter I harshly criticize the poor quality of some of the earlier work done by my "mental health treatment providers" and examiners - including their tendency to make incorrect "quotations" and indulge in ridiculous interpretations of pretty straightforward material.

Gee, maybe it was a bad idea to insist that I had a female gender identity? Maybe it was a bad idea to criticize the fantasies of mental health "experts" when they present them as "facts" in their reports? Maybe it was a bad idea to claim that my use of marijuana was therapeutic? And maybe it was a bad idea to tell the clinicians that my "confession" to the arson was in fact a false statement, the result of a con put over by the arresting officer - involving perjury, on his part?

Whether or not it was a "bad idea" to do so, telling it straight was the right thing to do.
